Some print jobs require additional artwork elements for cutting, coating or other finishing processes. These elements must be set up correctly so they can be identified and produced separately from the printed design.
Include all required elements in the same PDF as your print artwork, unless otherwise specified by Quality Press.
Dielines indicate where packaging is cut, creased or folded. They are production guides and should not appear on the finished product.
Spot UV adds a glossy coating to selected areas of a design, creating contrast against the surrounding finish.
Metallic or coloured foil applied to selected areas.
A separate white ink layer for suitable materials and print processes.
Other finishes may require their own spot colours and specific artwork settings. Always follow the supplied production specifications.
Overprint allows an object to print over underlying artwork instead of knocking it out.
Before submitting your PDF:
If you’re unsure how to set up your dielines or special finishes, our team can help you prepare your artwork for production.
No. Include your dieline, Spot UV mask and other required special finish elements in the same PDF as your print artwork, unless Quality Press specifies otherwise.
A spot colour identifies a specific ink or production element separately from the standard CMYK colours. It is commonly used for dielines, Spot UV, foil stamping and other special finishes.
This depends on the production requirements. Overprint is often used to prevent these elements from knocking out the underlying artwork, but the correct settings should always be confirmed for your job.
In Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, use Overprint Preview to inspect how overlapping elements will appear. You can also use Separations Preview to check spot colours.
Contact Quality Press before submitting your files. We can help clarify the artwork requirements for your particular print job.
